Show Us Your Rig!!

Acoutstic Guitar:

-Larrivee D-03RE
-(Should probably acquire a backup...)

Electirc Guitar:

-Fender Mexi-Strat w/Vinatage Noiseless pickups
-(Should probably acquire a backup for this as well...)

Amplifier

-Fender Blues Junior

Effects:

-Visual Sound Jekyll and Hyde
-Boss DS-1 (distortion, but I use it as a "feedback pedal"... sort of a gain/noise boost)
-Boss TU-2 (not so much an effect, but everyone needs one...

Re: Show Us Your Rig!!

Acoustic:
-Epiphone, unknown model. Mfd. in Kalamazoo, MI prior to Gibson purchasing the company.  Slim, 60's style Gibson neck.  Probably a Franken-guitar of sorts.  It's awesome.
-back-up/guitar with pickup - Matt's Larrivée

Electric:
-Epiphone Les Paul Standard (I should ask for an endorsement)

Amplifier:
-Traynor YCV40-WR
-When necessary/possible, use old Crate Blue Voodoo 212-60 as extension speaker cab.  Sounds awesome, the red and blue look awesome, and I am the only person I know who plays through a 3x12.

Effects Chain:
Boss TU-2 >
Dunlop Crybaby, when working >
Boss GT-3 with additional expression pedal (I'm gonna ride this thing 'til the wheels fall off)
GT-3 fx send > amp input
amp fx send > GT-3 fx return
GT-3 output > amp fx return

This is very convoluted, but allows me to arrange my gain stages, pre- and post- fx, and also to put a 3db boost on the power-amp tubes, which warms and compresses things nicely.  If I had infinite resources, I would do things differently, but, as is, it's nice warm sound via reasonably cheap stuff, and no gear-heads have ever complained about my tone until AFTER I told them what I was doing.

Re: Show Us Your Rig!!

Acoutstic Guitar:

-Alvarez Yairi WY-1 handmade in the early 90's - shortscale, so it's amazingly quick to play.  When only using acoustic for a set, I often split the signal and direct line to the board, and run the other into my Digitech GSP 2101, listed below.  I add compression, eq, reverb, and a tiny bit of flange - then run directly out (via the Digitech's active speaker compensated xlr outs) into two channels on the board for stereo effects.

Electric Guitar:

-1976 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe - customized with a fine tuning bridge.

Amplifier:

-Peavey 50/50 rack mount stereo amp.  All tube (two each 12AT7 and 12AX7 in the preamp, and eight EL84's in the poweramp).  Tone.  It's all about the tone.
-Two 12" 90 watt Mesa cabinets, miked with Shure Beta57's, panned hard right and left at the board.

Effects:

-Digitech GSP 2101 effects processor - they don't make them like this anymore: two 12AX7 stereo tube preamp, compressor, distortion, eq, reverb, delay, sampling, chorus, flange, pitch shift, detune, noise gate, tremelo, panners, phasers, wah.
-Digitech Control One - foot control for the 2101.
-Boss TU-2 Chromatic Tuner - MUST have this.  No way around it.
-Jim Dunlop Crybaby Wah

I also have a slew of recording equipment (mics, rack effects, etc…)

Over the years I’ve played both electric and acoustic, but ever since I got my Taylor I find mysel playing acoustic a lot more frequently ;o)

Re: Show Us Your Rig!!

Acoustic:

Yamaha Stage Custom Fusion kit w/ Sonic snare and Zildjian cymbals. Remo Ambassador heads on the bottom, Pinstripe heads on top, Powerstroke coated snare head.

Electric:

Roland VDrums with Paiste Signature Series cymbals and Zildjian hi-hat.

I don't own any of this personally; and I don't have my own set.  I'm not terribly fond of any of it except the Paiste cymbals.

Re: Show Us Your Rig!!

my rig is much more basic than any of these but it serves me very well

accustic : is a cheep ledgend led20ce and for $100 it has a sound to  rival a much more expencive guitar the thing is like the name says a ledgend it has served me very well

electric: i have recently purchased a P.R.S se which im still getting used to but boy is she grand
ibanez ex series from about 20 years ago but its not very nice its like playing rubber bands on a peice of wood

amp: mostly i play through your average marshall stack with a 4x12 cab though it isnt mine so i dont no a lot about it

laney hardcore mxd 65 this amp is mine and its not to bad 4 a solid state amp it has 1 12 inch speeker.

i dont run any effects i just love the soud the prs and marshell give out so why bother with effects i think if the amp and guitar sound good now what more do i need

although when playing throu my laney i will use a little digital reverb  which is built in the amp

Re: Show Us Your Rig!!

I lead primarily with acoustic guitar but will use electric on occasion.

Acoustic:
I have two low production, hand-made guitars. One is a Northwood MJC 80 by John McQuarrie.
The other is a Legacy by Tom Doerr.

The Northwood is an Englemann spruce top with an LR Baggs Duet II pickup. Fairly bright sond with good projection. great stage guitar. The Doerr is gorgeous on or off stage. Redwood top for a bit more mellow tone with a K&K Trinity Power Mix pickup.

I play through an EQ and minimal effects like reverb, compression straight into the church system. When playing out I will use Ultrasound amp with EQ and the Digitech listed below for looping capabilities.

Electric:
I currently play a mid range semi-hollow by Michael Kelly. A bit better then an Epiphone Sheraton but not quite a Gibson 335.

I have a mutli-effects pedal by Digitech - GNX3 - that offers several effects options and a looper optiona as well. I can run electric or acoustic through this. The sounds are not as good as individual pedals but there is a ton of possibilities in just the one pedal and serves me well.

Re: Show Us Your Rig!!

Zac, how do you like that Jeckel and Hyde overdrive pedal?  What kind of tones are you able to get out of it?

Re: Show Us Your Rig!!

Hi,

I am new to the forum, but have been reading all the setups that everyone has.  Here is mine.

Acoustic: Alvarez RD20S

Electic/Acoustic: Taylor T5

So far I don't have an amp or effects, just running the T5 through the PA, but it sounds pretty good.  I am looking for a good amp to place with my T5.  Considering a Blue's Jr.

Any suggestions.  I really like hillsong, chris tomlin, paul baloche, type of songs if that helps anyone.

Re: Show Us Your Rig!!

Jeremy, fill me in on that T5.  I haven't tried it yet - do you like it?  Is it the best of both worlds, or does the combo of electric and acoustic just create a new sound entirely?

Re: Show Us Your Rig!!

More on the T5.

When I first got my T5, I wasn't sure I liked it.  I have always played acoustic before.  Now that I have had it for several months, I am really starting to warm up to it and enjoy it.  I rarely play my acoustic anymore.  When I was shopping for a new guitar I really wanted to expand into the electric world, but couldn't find anything electric that could also create a good acoustic sound.  When I found this guitar I played it through an acoustic amp in the store and it sounded really good, so I took it home.

Acoustic Tone:
At first I had problems getting used to it because it doesn't have the same feel as an acoustic.  Very thin body and the sound projection is straight out in front of the guitar and quieter than a normal acoustic, but I bought it with the intention of running it through a PA or small amp so that didn't matter.  After getting to church and plugging it straigt into the PA, I was very happy with the tone.  I did notice the tone from the guitar to be a little different than a real acoustic.  It was described to me as being a little bit more mellow than a normal acoustic.  That comment was actually a compliment and they liked the more mellow sound.  As I found out later, the strings make a big difference on the tone (electric vs. acoustic).  According to Taylor's website you can run acoustic strings on the guitar if you like, so I tried it.  The guitar brightened with the acoustic strings and the feel of the strings were stiffer more like an acoustic, but I opted to replace them with electric strings and right now I have ghs nickel 11's on it and I am getting really good tone out of it.

Electric Tone:
I have not been able to dive into the electric side of things with the guitar yet.  Right now I am researching to see what amp and effects that I want to purchase for it.  I pretty much want to play strictly praise and worship or christian contemperary, but I haven't really had enough experience with the electric side to know what amps and effects are the best for the style of music.  I am open to suggestions.

Overall:
I really like my T5 and wouldn't trade it or sell it.  I think as an acoustic it will never have exactly the same sound or feel as a real acoustic, but I bet if you heard it without seeing it you couldn't tell the difference.  As an electric I am not sure yet, but I have spent my time on you tube listening to others play it and I doubt it will fall short.  I would recommend spending some time in a store playing one before buying as with anything, but it hasn't disappointed me yet.
