What Strings Do You Use?
Does it matter to you? I know some people are really picky, others could care less.
My current string for my acoustic (the only ones I care about) are Martin SP lights (.011), phosphor bronze wound. Love the way a fresh pair of them sound. Just need to change them about once a month.
I keep wondering about Elixers, but they are so dang expensive...

Re: What Strings Do You Use?
For my electric guitar I use D'Addario XL's (.010 to .046), and for acoustic, I use Elixir Nanoweb (.012 to .053).
I love the Elixir strings for acoustic guitar - I used to wear strings out quickly, but the Elixir strings seem to last more than twice as long and have great tone for most of that time. Double the cost, double the life!

Re: What Strings Do You Use?
I currently only have acoustics. And I use Martin SP Light's (0.12) phosphor bronze wound. If I buy them online they are less than $5 a set. I find they last about a month, as long as I don't let people play my guitar after they've eaten Kentucky Fried Chicken. (Another rant for a different time.)
I, personally, find that my fingers slip around on E"slick"ers whenever I've used them, although I do think they last a long time. But if you don't like them, then lasting a long time is a bad thing. ![]()
I too believe that different strings for different guitars is a good thing. I also like D'addario's strings if I can't get Martin SP's.

Re: What Strings Do You Use?
I prefer the slick feel that the Elixirs have - I think my fingers move a little quicker on them, and they don't hurt as much as normal strings. I used to play a Martin dreadnought that was really bright sounding, so I used the Elixir polyweb (a little thicker coating than nanoweb) strings to tone down the brightness. The acoustic I play now is a short scale Alvarez, and I think the nanoweb Elixirs sound best on it. If I wanted to brighten up a dark-toned guitar, I definitely would not pick Elixirs.
I used to use Blue Steel strings on my electric guitar - man did they last forever! They seemed a little tougher, and could take some serious pounding, but were no good for that nice warm lead tone I like so much, so I switched over to the D'Addarios.

Re: What Strings Do You Use?
you gotta go elixir, you wont go back. the coated d'addarios work pretty well too, i sometimes cant tell the difference, but theres nothing quite like a new set of elixir strings. ring beautiful.

Re: What Strings Do You Use?
You see, I've tried them (Elixers) but I just didn't like the feel. I should probably try them on my current guitar. Maybe I'm just not a skilled enough guitar player yet to get my fingers to keep up with the slick feel. My dislike is more with the feel than the sound. But I'll try some again and see.

Nathan-
Try the nanoweb. I didn't like the polyweb's (which were the original), which I thought were like playing snot-coated strings. The nano's are a little more 'organic,' and also lose the BRAND new string tone (which I find obnoxious) a lot faster, but maintain the great 3-5 days old tone.

Re: What Strings Do You Use?
I had the same thing, the polyweb's bugged the crap out of me, but then I tried the nano's... those are top quality, I won't put anything else on my Taylor

THanks guys. I've been trying nanowebs with good success recently. Still up in the air though.

Re: What Strings Do You Use?
I play primarily acoustic guitar but also add in some electric. I have owned many different guitars and have used many different strings. I am using primarily GHS Signature (Laurence Juber) 11s or 12s. These cast around $5-6 which is about half the Elixir price and they last about half as long. I found that the Elixirs lasted longer but tonaly do not compare to the uncoated. I prefer to have the tone and replace stings each month.

Re: What Strings Do You Use?
I have used the elixir's and martin's, but I always seem to end up with Dean Markley's Phospher Bronze 11's on my acoustic. I really like those.
