I think the list is B.S. In my experience the most common worship leading mistake is turing worship into a show. Following closely are: Not spending time with (or hearing from) God during the week, thinking that music and worship are interchangeable words, and collectively allowing “worship music” to become its own genre. I don’t think that we should assume these things to be obvious. There is no short amount of high dollar sound systems or controlling “worship arts” program directors, but there is an extreme shortage of authentic and creative worship in the church. I believe we have done the church a disservice that communicates a message that says; emotionally rich, well performed religious music equals good worship.

Jonathan - I think “B.S.” might be a little harsh, but I think you’re right. This list is mis-titled. Perhaps it should be called “17 common worship service production mistakes” or “17 common praise band mistakes” or something like that.

In the future, I will try to qualify lists like this as secondary to the issues you mention above (which we have absolutely mentioned in the past here, and are absolutely more important.)

    Thanks!

I am a worship leader myself, and I have seen in the church that people take worship and put good structure to it. Which is needed, to put a good flow on everything. We need to be prepared and take time to make sure with our worship we give that oppurtunity to go off with just music.

But every once in awhile we make worship a time where we do, this many songs, this way, give a little room for a free flow, and then were done.

The best thing I have ever done is to just go with the flow and let God do what he wants.
Even if the song is not on the powerpoint. (example)

    God Bless, awesome site.

    To much structure chokes worship.
